IRONMAN rule updates effective for the 2026 season:

IRONMAN has announced several rule updates effective for the 2026 season:

20-Meter Draft Zone for Professionals
The bike draft zone for professional athletes has been extended from 12 to 20 meters. Age-group athletes remain subject to the 12-meter rule but may not position themselves between legally spaced professional athletes. They have 45 seconds to overtake a professional or must remain behind the last pro in the group. Drafting penalties remain unchanged.

Apparel & Equipment Adjustments
Uniform violations—such as an unfastened front zipper or uncovered shoulders—will no longer lead to disqualification. Instead, athletes will receive a warning and must promptly correct the issue or face a 30- or 60-second time penalty.
Top tube attachments are now limited to a maximum height of 10 cm, may not cover the headset, and cannot be used for body support.

Para Open Division
The former PC/ID Open division has been renamed the Para Open division (“Para” meaning Parallel). It remains a non-competitive and inclusive category for 2026, with further classification development planned.

Athletes are advised to review the full 2026 Competition Rules prior to competing.
